Essay Writing Help: How Not to Miss Your Deadlines

Writing an essay in time is one of the keys to getting a high grade. However, meeting deadlines might be challenging and tiresome for many people. If you want to turn in your assignment when it’s due and avoid all the stress surrounding it, use the following tips to make it happen:

  1. Do not procrastinate.
  2. Planning is very important in essay writing unless your deadline is tomorrow. In this case, it’s too late to plan and this tip may not be of big help to you. Even very smart students risk ending up with low grades if they put away their tasks for later. Whether you are writing your essay at home or as part of a test, stick to the following:

    • Bigger and more difficult essay questions should come first. You do not want to exhaust yourself and be late in the end.
    • If you have time left, reread and make your essay more specific.
  3. Focus on the question being asked.
  4. One of the most common mistakes is to misunderstand a question. Make sure you know what exactly should be addressed in your essay. If you are asked to express a personal opinion, do not write what most people think; or, if you need to provide a clear example, do not generalize. Remember that answering the wrong question can ruin even a brilliantly written essay.

  5. Organize your ideas.
  6. In order to save time and bypass confusion in your writing, make a plan and put down your ideas. Brainstorm what you know about the topic and outline the subtopics using just short phrases. If some idea lacks development, cross it out.

  7. Revise.
  8. A new idea may strike you at any time while writing your essay. In this case, you would usually stop in the middle of a sentence and quickly insert this new train of thought. Doing this often makes your writing look rather rough and poorly planned. Writing in the margins instead of adding directly into the text can solve the problem. You may also indicate the addition of a new paragraph/sentence with a help of a line. Do not cram your sentences into each line; leave room to make changes and readable insertions.

  9. Match your argument with your conclusion.
  10. If you get carried away and your introductory thesis turns out to not match your conclusion, modify the thesis accordingly. In this case, subtopics should also be revised to correspond to your new ideas. Having all parts of the essay fit makes it look smart and to the point.
